SkyFITNESS

Today, my friends Holly, Nancy, and I went to a SkyFITNESS class at Sky Zone. I've been wanting to try this trampoline workout for a long time, but this blog gave me the motivation to show up and bring along some friends. Unfortunately, I've felt slightly under the weather, so I warned our instructor that I'd be taking it a little easy.

We started the workout by bouncing on our individual trampolines and with some light stretches. The cardio part of the workout was the most difficult, but also the most enjoyable, as we bounced around the giant grid from trampoline to trampoline and then ran across the trampolines. It's so much more difficult than you'd think. We were all laughing as we bounced, tumbled, got back up, and bounced again. I'm the klutziest human on the planet, but even I started to get the hang of it by our second round.

We also worked on our legs with squats and other bounces. The arms and abs portion doesn't use the trampolines much, but they do add resistance. The class seemed to fly by and I never once thought to even check my watch during the water breaks.

We ended the class with a 5 minute trampoline dodgeball game. Loved it! Thankfully, no one took it too seriously and we were laughing too hard to really peg anyone with the balls. Turns out, I'm fantastic at the dodging part of dodgeball! The trampolines added so much to a game that I loathed as a kid.

As I type this at 7pm, I'm already feeling some soreness in my legs and arms, even though I took it easy and only did probably two-thirds of the workout.

I had a great time and I will definitely return and give it 100% next time!

Cost: $10 per class ($5 for your first class) plus $2 plus tax for a pair of sky socks.
Fun Factor: High
Difficulty: Moderate

Our instructor was kind enough
to let us jump around and
take a few pictures after class ended!

Vroom, vroom...away we go!

I don't like group fitness classes.  I, in fact, pretty much loathe them.  I can't seem to follow dance choreography and always feel completely idiotic in any aerobics-style class.  I've tried spinning a couple of times and I wasn't a fan (plus my butt became bruised from the hard seat). I was clueless and irritated by the pace of the one body pump class that I attempted years ago.  Pilates feels weird and silly. I laughed hysterically through the hour-long boot camp workout that my friends and I attempted back at the University of Florida.  I have a long history of trying and failing at group fitness classes...with a couple of exceptions.  I really love yoga and I had an enjoyable time doing pure barre for a few months straight.  Other than that, I'm not so into group fitness.

This blog isn't about figuring out why I hate them or even finding the one (or a few) that I love.  It's going to be about trying new things and giving a few other workouts a second chance.  It's going to be a chronicle of my experiences in group fitness classes around Atlanta and maybe even along my travels.  It will be silly and self-deprecating. I will be honest and truthful, but I am prone to hyperbole and colorful descriptions. I am hoping to attend at least one group fitness class per week and to stay up-to-date on my posts, so feel free to nag me, if needed.

I'm excited to start my test drives this week on the trampolines at SkyZone Fitness.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
